Helping to Raise Money to Fight Breast Cancer

bc-the3dayShortly, thousands of women and men will unite in cities across the country and walk 60 miles over the course of three days. It’s a weekend of hope, as each of us honor lives lost, celebrates survivors, promotes breast cancer research, and helps bring breast cancer care to those who so desperately need it.

Each participant in the Breast Cancer 3-Day commits to raising at least $2,200 for the cause. These Breast Cancer 3-Days have helped thousands of people raise millions of dollars. I am trying to do my small part in doing something that most people have never dared to do Ð go the extra mile to beat breast cancer.

Where the Money Goes

Net proceeds benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, to fund breast cancer research, education, screening, treatment, and community outreach as well as the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund, to provide a special field of interest (endowment) fund for breast cancer initiatives.

You don’t have to be an athlete or walker to participate. This event is for all kinds of people – mothers, fathers, daughters, grandparents, friends, breast cancer survivors. All you need is compassion, desire, and a commitment to fighting breast cancer.

My Small Part

Chances are we all either have a family member or friend who has battled this disease. I personally have known many women who have sufferedÉsome have survived others were less fortunate. The keys to the cure are funding, a greater awareness in the community and early detection.

While I wonÕt be participating in the walk I wanted to come up with a way that I could raise a small amount of money for this important cause within our business circles. So, I have partnered with a good friend of mine, and owner of Henry Repeating Arms, Anthony Imperato of Brooklyn, NY, in offering up for auction a brand new Henry Golden Boy Deluxe. This is a masterfully engraved .22 magnum version of their very popular Golden Boy line of guns. MSRP for this gun is $1,300.

My uncle Dave Massey has been gracious enough to start the bidding/auction off at $500. The bidding will close on August 18th. The winner of this auction will be photographed with the gun in hand with that photograph to then be used and promoted on the Henry website.

If you choose to bid on this item just send me an email (listed below) with your bid amount. I will keep track and send out periodic word doc. email updates as this auction progresses. If you are the winning bidder and are from outside of Washington state I will make arrangements to have the gun shipped to an FFL near your home.
