Is it a beginner’s choice or an expert’s choice? Often misunderstood, the .410 bore is most notable for its small stature and light recoil. It may be small, but it can punch well above its weight class thanks to recent advances in shotshell technology, like heavy-weight tungsten shot.

While its mild recoil does make it a good choice for younger shooters, care must be taken to avoid frustrations that may come as a result of its smaller spread. However, it is that small spread and long shot trail that makes it an incredibly fun choice for small wingshooting, rabbits, squirrels, or an afternoon of clay busting.

Outside of hunting and clays, .410 can even be used for home defense with the proper load.
