L to R: Anthony Imperato, President of Henry Repeating Arms, with Honorees Bill Wester, Dylan Dorris, Scott Perkins, Jack Thompson, M.J. Vowell, Debbie Green, Charles Green and Cheryl Benitaz Metcalf.

Henry Repeating Arms presented tribute rifles to eight deserving individuals who serve the state and country last night at The National NRA Foundation Banquet and Auction at the Kentucky International Convention Center as part of The NRA 2016 Annual Meetings & Exhibits.

As a sponsor of the event, Anthony Imperato, President of Henry Repeating Arms, recognized local heroes who’ve gone above and beyond the call of duty by inviting them to the stage to thank them for their service. Each honoree was presented with an American-made Henry rifle.

Imperato was introduced to the crowd by John DaSilva, Director, Industry Partnerships of the NRA. DaSilva thanked him for his donation of 1,100 Henry Frontier Rifles to be used at Friends of NRA events across the country, and for his two decades of support. “His commitment to supporting the NRA Foundation is unwavering and his contributions have generated millions of dollars for our future generations to enjoy the shooting sports through the NRA’s education, safety and training.

His creativity and generosity ranks him among the best in the industry,” DaSilva told the crowd.
DaSilva also announced Henry’s donation of one thousand special edition Golden Boy Rifles to be used at the first NRA record-setting Henry 1000 Man Shoot.  This fundraising event will line up 1000 folks who will shoot the donated rifles at the Ben Avery Shooting Range in Phoenix, Arizona on November 14th, 2016.

Visibly touched, Imperato started by recognizing three members of the Kentucky Friends of NRA chapters and thanking them for their fundraising efforts to promote local youth shooting sports. Cheryl Benitez of Elizabethtown, KY and Charles Green of Frankfort KY, both Veterans, were presented with Henry Military Service Tribute edition rifles. Debbie Green, also of Frankfort KY, was presented with a Henry American Beauty rifle.

He went on to proclaim NRA Instructors the unsung heroes of the firearms industry. “They take their personal time and spend their own money to promote firearm safety and teach youth shooting sports so our traditions can continue,” he explained.  Instructor MJ Vowell of Ekron, KY was brought to the stage and presented with a Henry American Beauty rifle.

The importance of protecting our nation’s Second Amendment was highlighted by the telling of three men’s stories. Jack Thompson of Benton, KY was presented with a Henry Golden Boy rifle for saving himself and his wife when he used his personal firearms to stop a home invader. In a case of a citizen helping out law enforcement, retired Marine veteran Scott Perkins, a Purple Heart recipient from Bastrop, TX was awarded a Henry Military Service Tribute Edition rifle for his heroic act of using his concealed handgun to halt a criminal who was apprehended soon after by Deputy Dylan Dorris of Giddings, TX. Deputy Dorris was presented with a Henry Law Enforcement Tribute Edition rifle for his service.

The final recognition went to 100-year old WWII Veteran Bill Wester of Louisville, KY with Imperato presenting him with a Henry Military Service Tribute Rifle. “This man is one of the last of America’s greatest generation and we owe our freedom to him today,” Imperato said, voice cracking. “Thank You for your service to our country, God Bless You and God Bless the United States of America,” he continued as the crowd of 2,200 people rose to applaud the honorees.

Serial Number “Kellen01” Henry Golden Boy is First of 42 Rifles Created to Help 2-Year-Old Boy Needing 42 Cancer Treatments
“KELLEN01” HENRY GOLDEN BOY

Upon learning the story of two-year-old Kellen Findley of Dozier, Alabama who was diagnosed with Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma (striated muscle) cancer, which will require 42 cancer treatments, Anthony Imperato, President of Henry Repeating Arms and his staff quickly volunteered to design and donate 42 custom Henry Golden Boys to help raise funds for Kellen’s treatments.

This Golden Boy is the first of the 42 guns to be sold and is most likely the only one that will be made available on www.gunbroker.com, auction # 532360390. The gun carries serial number KELLEN01 and special “Fight Like A Kid” logo and lettering on the butt stock. The high bidder will also receive a special Certificate of Authenticity and Letter of Appreciation from Mr. Imperato.

The auction features a $420 opening bid and a Buy Now of $4,200.

“KELLEN01” HENRY GOLDEN BOY“We have been continually amazed by the generosity and devotion to helping others that has been shown by America’s gun owners, particularly the more than 3 million dedicated GunBroker.com users,” Mr. Imperato said. “When I suggested the $4,200 “Buy Now” price, a few folks thought I was overly optimistic. You just watch, I told them.”

When Kellen’s Uncle, Jay Findley, learned his nephew’s softball-size tumor was cancerous and could not be removed at that time because it was so large, he was devastated. Removing it then, might deform Kellen’s body. He wanted to do something to help Kellen, his parents and family. Uncle Jay and his wife decided to hold a Benefit Auction to raise money for the many costs associated with the 42 treatments Kellen will need to fight this cancer. A fan of Henry rifles, Jay reached out to Henry President Anthony Imperato who immediately responded by donating 42 Henry Golden Boy “Fight Like A Kid” Tribute Edition .22 caliber rifles. The guns will all carry the “Fight Like A Kid” laser engraving on the buttstock and will have special serial numbers KELLEN01-KELLEN42.

In addition to KELLEN01, two additional rifles will be raffled by Top Gun Arms in Ethridge, Tennessee. The balance will be auctioned, raffled or sold through Buds Gun Sales, Sevierville, Tennessee. The presentation was made midway through The Charlie Daniels Band’s set, with Charlie standing by. As lead sponsor our company donated $200,000 to The Journey Home Project, the non-profit organization co-founded by Charlie Daniels and his long-time manager David Corlew. TJHP connects donors with the veterans’ organizations that do the most good in meeting the health care, education and career needs of military servicemen and women and their families.  The check reads $100,000 but Anthony was so moved during the concert he decided to make Charlie an offer he couldn’t refuse – he would double the amount if Charlie let him sing with him – which he graciously agreed to.

The sold-out crowd at the Bridgestone Arena was brought to a standing ovation when the Veterans were brought onstage. You can watch the presentation above.

The honorees were:
Jack ten Napel, a 95-year-old WW2 Veteran who served in the USMC. Mr. ten Napel survived the bombing of Pearl Harbor and went on to serve on every island in the Pacific. Out of his original outfit of about 400 men, he is one of eight who survived until the end of the war.
Scott Schroeder, a Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient was recognized for serving in the U.S. Army for 26 years. During his final tour in Afghanistan in 2010 Mr. Schroeder lost both legs when his vehicle ran over a pressure plate and was blown up.
Sam Schoenheit, a USMC Staff Sergeant was honored for his bravery after being shot in the head during an ambush and later suffering a stroke. Mr. Schoenheit spent the last seven years accomplishing his goals of regaining his speech, ability to walk, expression, and a college degree.
Ryan Weaver, a Chief Warrant Officer 3 in the United States Army was recognized for his courage during his deployment in Iraq as a Black Hawk helicopter pilot and for his continued commitment to the military upon his return from combat by training the next generation of Army aviators and officers at Fort Rucker, Alabama.
Scott Brown, an Operation Iraqi Freedom Combat Veteran of the USMC who served with Chris Kyle and co-founded the Chris Kyle Memorial Benefit & Auction was presented with a Henry Military Service Tribute rifle on the Henry Rifles Stage in the outdoor plaza during the free show for concert-goers and bystanders.

Henry Repeating Arms Honors Veterans, 1st Responders and an NRA Instructor at The NRA 2015 Annual Meetings & Exhibits on April 9, 2015

As a sponsor of the event, Anthony Imperato, President of Henry Repeating Arms, chose to recognize local heroes of the community who’ve proven to go above and beyond the call of duty by inviting them to the stage to thank them for their service. Each honoree was presented with a rifle from Henry’s line of commemorative tribute rifles.

Imperato called forward 19 first responders, veterans, and active military members to join him on stage, reading aloud their accomplishments of service to our country and its citizens. The emotional response from both Imperato and the crowd was an incredible sight as they gave a deafening standing ovation to these men and women – true heroes for our country.

Henry Repeating Arms President Anthony Imperato talks with Mark Keefe about his company’s charitable causes.

Imperato started by proclaiming NRA Instructors the unsung heroes of the firearms industry. “They take their personal time and spend their own money to promote firearm safety and teach youth shooting sports so our traditions can continue,” he explained.  Instructor Leroy Farris of Rockvale was brought to the stage and presented with a Henry Silver Eagle rifle.

Amy Moore, a flight nurse of Ethridge received an EMS Tribute Rifle; Joshua Smith, a firefighter Engineer of Franklin received a Firefighter Tribute Rifle; and Officer Katy Davis of Knoxville received a Law Enforcement Tribute Rifle.

The final presentation recognized those who fought and risked their lives for our freedoms by serving or currently serving in the Armed Forces. Four Active Duty and eleven Veterans received a Henry Military Service Tribute Rifle. “These men and women along with their families sacrificed to protect this great country of ours, and we owe our freedom to them today,” Imperato said, choking back tears. “Thank You for your service to our country, God Bless You and God Bless the United States of America,” he continued as the crowd of 2000 people stood and applauded the honorees.

Veteran recipients included Edgar Harrell of Clarksville who served in the U.S. Marine Corps and is one of only 317 to survive the sinking of The Indianapolis in WW2; David Gray of Springfield who served in the U.S. Army in Iraq where he saved the lives of several of his men when he shielded them from an improvised explosive device and was later wounded during a rocket attack, Jimmy Gentry of Franklin who served as Staff Sargent in the U.S. Army and fought overseas in WW2; Linc Van Sickel of Somerset, PA who served in the U.S. Army in Korea; J.T. Active Duty Recipients were Staff Sergeant Brenda Curry of Clarksville who serves in the U.S. Army and has been deployed to Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan; Major Brandy Johnson of Nashville who serves in the U.S. Air Force as a Senior Pilot and participated in multiple freedom operations; Master Sergeant Heather Yates of Estill Springs who serves in the U.S. Air Force and has been deployed to ten countries; and Danielle Panting of Nashville who serves in the U.S. Navy and participated in Operation Enduring Freedom in Kuwait. As active-duty service members are not permitted to accept the rifles, their rifles will be donated to the individuals’ local American Legion posts. Imperato promised each of them a raincheck for the rifles upon their retirements.

Imperato said the impetus for this presentation was that he was “tired of gun owners getting a black eye,” and wanted to highlight the positive side of firearm ownership. “I wanted to show the world how great the firearm industry is and how good law-abiding gun owners are.” Thus he formed “Guns for Great Causes” with his company, which financially supports charitable causes such as sick children, wounded veterans and youth shooting sports programs. Watch Anthony explain more during the video interview with Mark Keefe, Editor-In-Chief of American Rifleman.
