H009 – Lever Action .30-30 in Blued Steel
Dan Clayton-Luce, Communications Director, Henry Repeating Arms
Between the Great American Outdoor Show in Harrisburg, PA and the NRA Annual Meeting in Dallas, TX we’ve had the chance to talk to so many shooters and we’ve noticed a common theme. People who have never been hunting before are now interested in taking up the sport, and they’re on the hunt for their first dedicated deer rifle.
If this sounds like you then we would suggest taking a good look at the Henry Lever Action .30-30 in blued steel. It’s the perennial choice for the whitetail hunter for a reason.
The ammo is readily available just about anywhere, the recoil is relatively light (about ½ the perceived recoil of a .30-06), and it has achieved legendary status as the ubiquitous deer round for a lever action rifle through many, many decades of hunting.
Why the H009?
Sticking with the classic look of blued steel on American walnut with a caliber like .30-30 just makes sense. From the soft rubber recoil pad to the brass bead front sight there is no detail spared. Its lightweight (just 7 lbs.) and it’s maneuverable (39″ long), which provides the perfect combination for dense timber or thick brush. The 20” round blued steel barrel sits atop a magazine tube capable of holding 5 rounds. The sights are Henry’s standard fully adjustable semi-buckhorn and brass bead combo, but the receiver is drilled and tapped for use with your favorite optic.
Its effective range for deer is up to 200 yards, which is sufficient for the vast majority of deer hunters in the United States. While deer might be the first thing you think about with .30-30 it’s also perfectly capable of taking hogs and black bear, or even moose and elk at shorter ranges although we don’t recommend the latter for beginners.
The H009 is one of those firearms that you can run hard for your entire life and then pass it down to your children or grandchildren for them to do the same. The Henry Lifetime Warranty will back up your purchase to ensure there are no issues between now and then.
